Privacy Policy

This policy describes how AustralianRoofers.com ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, shares and protects your personal information. It applies to everyone who uses the AustralianRoofers.com website, podcast, newsletter, or quote-request form.

We're an Australian directory of verified roofing companies. Our business operates within Australia and is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We've tried to write this plainly, without legalese where it can be avoided.

1. The personal information we collect

We collect different categories of information depending on how you interact with us:

When you submit a quote request

On any of our city pages (e.g. /sydney/), you can fill in a form to request roofing quotes. When you submit it, we collect:

When you subscribe to our newsletter

If you join our newsletter, we collect your email address and (where you choose to provide it) your first name. Newsletter subscriptions are managed by Kit (kit.com) on our behalf.

When you email us

If you email [email protected] or any other address on our domain, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use Cloudflare Email Routing to forward inbound email to our operational inbox.

When you visit the website

We collect standard web-server data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you viewed, and the referring URL. This is collected via:

When you listen to the podcast on our site

Plays of the audio file on our website are logged by our hosting provider. If you listen via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music or any other third-party podcast app, that app collects its own listener data under its own privacy policy — we don't see your identity, only aggregate download counts.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect for these specific purposes:

3. Who we share your information with

The roofing firms you select in a quote request

This is the most important sharing arrangement to understand, because it's the core of our service.

When you submit a quote request on a city page, the form shows you up to ten verified firms in that city. You explicitly select which firms (up to five) should receive your request. We then email only those firms you selected, sharing your name, email, suburb, phone (if provided), project type and message. Each firm receives the request as a normal email; they can then contact you directly to provide a quote.

We rely on the "factual messages" exemption and the "inferred consent" provisions of the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) — the email contains only the substance of your inquiry, identifies us as the sender on your behalf, and includes a one-click unsubscribe link for the firm. We do not add the firms to a marketing list; each quote-request fan-out is a one-time use of their published contact details.

We do not sell or rent your information to firms, and we do not receive a commission from firms based on quotes you accept. Our income from the quote-request feature is zero; the feature exists to make the directory useful.

Service providers (data processors)

We use a small number of third-party services to operate the site. Each has access only to the data needed for its specific role:

Each of these providers has its own privacy practices; their handling of any data we share is governed by their own privacy policies and our contract with them.

Other circumstances

We may also share your information:

4. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:

We don't use cookies for cross-site advertising, retargeting, or to build personal profiles of you across the web. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; the site continues to function, but some features (e.g. form submission) may be limited.

5. How we store and protect your information

Quote-request submissions and any associated audit records are stored encrypted at rest in Cloudflare's edge storage (Workers KV and R2) for up to 90 days, then automatically deleted. Newsletter subscriber information is stored by Kit on their infrastructure. Email correspondence is stored in our operational Gmail inbox via Cloudflare Email Routing.

All traffic between you and our site is encrypted in transit via HTTPS (TLS 1.2 or higher). Server-to-server traffic between AustralianRoofers.com and our processors uses encrypted channels.

We don't store credit-card or payment information, because we don't take payments from homeowners.

6. How long we keep your information

7. Your rights under the Australian Privacy Principles

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days. There's no charge for routine requests.

8. International data transfers

Several of the service providers listed above operate from outside Australia (mostly the United States). When we share your personal information with them, it may be processed and stored on servers outside Australia. We require each provider to apply protections at least equivalent to the Australian Privacy Principles, either contractually or through their published privacy commitments.

By using the site, you understand that some of your personal information may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions other than Australia.

9. Children's privacy

The site is not directed at children under 18 and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the site, please contact us at [email protected] and we'll delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available at this URL, with the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. Significant changes will be highlighted in the next newsletter to subscribers.
