How it's calculated: a transparent, evidence-weighted score — identity & longevity from the public ABN register, reputation from verified Google reviews, and consistency from cross-checking independent platforms. Grades are proportional to the evidence. Where we search the register and can't confirm a business, the identity check scores zero rather than being quietly left out — so a firm we couldn't verify never outranks one we could. Longevity stays unscored in that case, because without a registration date there's nothing to measure.

Our honest take

Verdict: Credentialed family re-roofing firm; thin review sample

On paper, Roof & Render SA is one of the most thoroughly credentialed Adelaide roofers we've reviewed. They publish their ABN, builder's licence (BLD 263227), asbestos removal licence, EPA asbestos transport licence and $20 million public liability cover right on their website — most firms make you ask. The ABN checks out against the ABR as an SA private company active since June 2014, and the firm says the family business behind it goes back to 1921 across four generations of the Mann family. We can't verify the century claim independently, but a business that volunteers its paperwork this readily starts from a position of trust.

The odd part is the Google review base, and we'd be doing you a disservice not to say so plainly: it's a perfect 5.0, but from just 10 reviews — and most of them praise the Colorbond showroom and display centre rather than a finished roof. Only a couple describe actual work: one names Chandra as trustworthy and fantastic on the tools, and a detailed review praises Aidan's quoting process and colour mock-ups for a tile-to-Colorbond conversion that hadn't started yet at the time of writing. That's genuinely nice feedback, but it's a thin sample of completed jobs for a firm claiming 5,000+ of them.

So our read is: strong structural signals (licences, insurance, showrooms in the city and Lonsdale, published warranties of 20 years watertight and 10 years workmanship — their figures, get them in writing), weak review evidence. If you're considering them for a full re-roof or asbestos conversion, they're well worth a quote — just ask to see recently completed local projects or speak to a couple of past customers, because Google won't show you many.

How we read this: Google's 5.0 from just 10 reviews is the only independent rating we could find, and most of those reviews rate the showroom experience rather than finished roofing work — so treat the number as promising but unproven.

⚑ Most reviews rate the showroom, not a finished roof

Six of the ten Google reviews praise the Colorbond display centre rather than completed roofing work, one describes a job that hadn't started yet, and one 5-star display review comes from a reviewer who shares a first name with the firm's own quoting rep (we can't confirm whether it's the same person). None of this is damning — the couple of reviews describing real work are warm — but the evidence base for workmanship on Google is much thinner than the 5.0 badge suggests. Ask for recent completed-job references.

Why we bother: "years in business" is the claim most roofers make and fewest prove. The register settles it — an established registered company is a materially different risk to a brand-new sole trader, and now you don't have to take anyone's word for it.

What they're actually known for New

Ranked by what customers mention — not a self-declared list

Metal & Colorbond4 of 20 reviews
Tile roofing1 of 20 reviews
Re-roofing / full replacement1 of 20 reviews
Guttering & downpipes1 of 20 reviews
What this tells us: Metal and Colorbond work dominates the small review taxonomy, matching the firm's own positioning: full roof replacements and tile-to-metal or asbestos-to-metal conversions. This is a replacement and conversion outfit — not the firm to call for a quick tile repoint or a restoration repaint.

Who you'll actually deal with

The Mann family — four generations, per their own site

The firm describes itself as Adelaide's oldest family roofing business, run by the Mann family across four generations since 1921 — those are their claims, from their own about page, which also introduces a team including Stuart, Scott and Garath (roofers), Andrew (sales), Keith (project management) and Carol in the office. The company registration behind it all dates from 2014, so the century of history is family lineage rather than the current entity's age.

The names customers actually mention in Google reviews are slightly different: Aidan, who handled a detailed quote including colour mock-ups and a showroom visit, and Chandra, praised as trustworthy on the tools. Neither appears on the about page's team list, so we'd treat the team as bigger than the website suggests — worth asking who'd run your specific job.

What clients say

In their own words

★★★★★

Chandra did fantastic job. He is very trustworthy and highly recommended.

— Dipesh Raj Pandey
★★★★★

Amazing showroom and relaxed way to view all that you need with the best quality products available.

— Alan Trovato

The small review set splits into two themes: praise for the Colorbond showroom and colour-selection experience, and a couple of warm mentions of trustworthy, professional work and quoting from Chandra and Aidan.

Best for

  • Full tile-to-Colorbond or metal-to-metal roof replacements where you want to see large colour samples and mock-ups before committing
  • Asbestos roof conversions — they publish their asbestos removal and EPA transport licence numbers, which most firms don't
  • Homeowners who value paperwork: ABN, builder's licence, insurance and warranty terms are all published up front

Less suited for

  • Small repairs, restorations or repaints — replacement and conversion is clearly the business model
  • Anyone who decides on review volume — 10 Google reviews, mostly about the showroom, is a thin evidence base for a firm claiming 5,000+ jobs
  • Budget-driven shoppers — a four-generation firm with two showrooms and in-house crews is unlikely to be the cheapest quote you collect

Before you commit

Five questions worth asking

  • Your site advertises a 20-year watertight warranty and 10-year workmanship warranty — can I get both in writing, and what exactly does each cover?
  • Most of your Google reviews are about the showroom — can you show me two or three recently completed re-roofs nearby, or put me in touch with past customers?
  • For an asbestos conversion, is removal done under your own licences, is it itemised in the quote, and do I get a clearance certificate?
  • You say all installers are in-house with no subcontractors — can you confirm that applies to my job, and who my project manager would be?
  • Your site says a typical replacement takes about a week — what's the schedule for my roof, and what happens if weather intervenes?

Bottom line

Roof & Render SA backs itself with more published credentials than almost any Adelaide roofer we've reviewed — licences, insurance, warranties and ABN all up front — but its perfect 5.0 Google score rests on just 10 reviews that mostly praise the showroom. Get the warranty in writing and ask to see finished roofs, and this looks like a serious contender for a full replacement or asbestos conversion.
