AustralianRoofers Trust Score New
How it's calculated: a transparent, evidence-weighted score — identity & longevity from the public ABN register, reputation from verified Google reviews, and consistency from cross-checking independent platforms. Grades are proportional to the evidence. Where we search the register and can't confirm a business, the identity check scores zero rather than being quietly left out — so a firm we couldn't verify never outranks one we could. Longevity stays unscored in that case, because without a registration date there's nothing to measure.
Our honest take
Melbourne Quality Roofing — MQR to nearly everyone who reviews them — is a tile roof restoration specialist working Melbourne's south-east from Rowville, and their review record is about as clean as we've seen: every one of the 20 most recent Google reviews we read is five stars, and the themes barely vary. Jim quotes thoroughly, answers every email and text quickly, and the crew turns up when they said they would, does the rebedding, repointing, tile replacement and repaint, then cleans up properly. Multiple reviewers mention receiving photos of the finished work without asking.
What stands out to us is that reviewers name the actual crew — Jason gets called out repeatedly for the quality of his tiling, and Michael, Scott, Dillon, Daniel and Nathan all appear across different jobs. That's a firm with a stable in-house team, not a quoting front that subs everything out. One reviewer even mentioned MQR organising a plumber at their own initiative when an unrelated blocked pipe turned up at the end of a job — the kind of detail people only write when they've been genuinely looked after.
The honest caveats: this is a restoration outfit first and foremost. Leak repair barely registers in the review taxonomy, so if you need an emergency tarp at 10pm they may not be your first call. And some of the banner claims are the firm's own: it says it has more than 35 years of experience in the roofing industry and was established in 1988, and advertises a 'Best Businesses award winner 2017 to 2026'. Public registers trace the Melbourne Quality Roofing name to October 2012 and the current company to November 2016 — we found nothing earlier, so the 35 years most likely describes the team's trade experience rather than the business itself, and we couldn't verify the award. The work record, though, speaks for itself.

⚑ The '35 years', 1988 and award claims are the firm's own
The firm says it has more than 35 years of experience in the roofing industry and was established in 1988, and its website advertises 'Award Winner of Best Businesses from 2017 to 2026'. The earliest public record we could find for the business is the 'Melbourne Quality Roofing' business name, registered in October 2012; the current company, MQR Group Pty Ltd, followed in November 2016. Nothing on the public register reaches back to 1988, so the 35 years most likely reflects the team's personal trade experience, and we couldn't find independent confirmation of the award. Neither claim is disqualifying, but neither is verified — so weigh the (genuinely excellent) customer reviews more heavily than the banner claims.

Who you'll actually deal with
Jim out front, with a named regular crew
Jim is the name in 25 of the recent reviews — he does the quoting (often alongside Michael), answers the queries, and is the constant from first inspection to final photos. Reviewers consistently describe his quotes as thorough and well-explained, and his responsiveness — email, SMS, phone — comes up more often than any other single trait.
On the tools, Jason is described by one reviewer as the main tradesman and earns repeated praise for the standard of his tiling and attention to detail, with Michael, Scott, Dillon, Daniel and Nathan appearing across various jobs. We only have first names — the firm's site doesn't publish a team page — but the recurring cast across a year of reviews points to a genuine standing crew rather than ad-hoc subcontractors.
What clients say
In their own words
Jim did an amazing job at fixing our broken roof. Very professional and very good at what he does. Highly recommend!!
Thank you so much Jim & team for roof restoration including replacement of gables. Has come up better than new and communication through the whole process was second to none. Thanks again!!
Roof restoration was done to my house in bulleen, really happy with the job by Jason. Jim and Michael from were very responsive and everything was done according to schedule. Thanks guys
Reviewers return to the same trio of themes: thorough, well-explained quotes; fast, patient communication from Jim throughout; and restoration work — rebedding, repointing, tile replacement, repainting — finished on schedule to a standard that reviewers say transformed their roofs.
Best for
- Full tile roof restorations — rebedding, repointing, valleys, broken tiles and repaint is the bread-and-butter job in review after review
- Homeowners in Melbourne's south-east — Rowville, Clayton South, Glen Waverley, Wheelers Hill and surrounds are the firm's stated home turf
- People who want constant communication — quick replies, progress photos and a clearly-explained scope come up repeatedly
Less suited for
- Emergency leak repairs — restoration dominates the reviews and leak work barely features, so urgent callouts aren't their proven lane
- Slate or heritage-specific roofs — the review record is almost entirely concrete and terracotta tile restorations
- Anyone who books on banner claims — the '35 years', 'established 1988' and award lines are the firm's own and reach further back than any public record we could find (2012), so judge them on the reviews instead
Before you commit
Five questions worth asking
- Your website advertises a 20% seasonal discount on restorations — what exactly does the discounted price include, and is the 4-coat system part of it?
- One reviewer mentioned receiving a written 10-year guarantee — is that standard on every restoration, and can I see the terms before booking?
- Who will actually be on my roof — Jason and your regular crew, or subcontractors?
- You say you were established in 1988 — what did the business trade as before the Melbourne Quality Roofing name was registered in 2012, and whose experience makes up the 35 years?
- Can you itemise the quote — number of tiles replaced, rebedding, repointing, valley irons, coats of paint — so I can compare it line-by-line with other quotes?
Bottom line
For a tile roof restoration in Melbourne's south-east, MQR is one of the strongest review records we've seen — a named, stable crew, obsessive communication from Jim, and not a single negative review in the recent sample. Just treat the '35 years' and award banners as the firm's own claims, and get the guarantee and itemised scope in writing like any smart homeowner would.
